MHADA launched a statewide tree plantation drive on July 14 with a target of planting one lakh trees during Van Mahotsav.
Priority will be given to indigenous and fruit-bearing tree species that are two to three years old and five to six feet tall.
Every planted tree will be geo-tagged for long-term monitoring and maintenance.
MHADA CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal planted 30 Golden Shower (Bahava) trees at the headquarters in Bandra (East), expected to absorb over 3,000 kg of CO2 and generate nearly 15,000 kg of oxygen annually.
The initiative includes developing Miyawaki forests in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and a Jal Seva Initiative with water bowls and feeding stations for birds and animals.
