Top dogs ride waves at annual World Dog Surfing Championships

The World Dog Surfing Championships took place in Pacifica, California, about 14 miles south of San Francisco.

Dogs were judged on how long they stayed on their board, the size of the wave, and their confidence.

The event, now in its 10th year, included a pet adoption event and fundraising for local animal charities.

Sophia Sadlowski's Miniature Pinscher, Rusty, competed in the small-sized and tandem dog competitions.

Rusty took third place in his first surf competition at four months old.
