Competition, camaraderie fuels India’s fast men

Indian sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur will compete in 100m and 200m at the Commonwealth Games, a first for India in these elite events at CWG.

The 100m national record changed hands three times between Gurindervir and Animesh at the Federation Cup in Ranchi in May 2026.

The sprint group, including Amlan Borgohain, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Pranav Gurav, trains at the Reliance Foundation under coaches James Hillier and Martin Owens.

Animesh Kujur broke Amlan Borgohain's 200m national record of 20.52 seconds in 2025, clocking 20.32 seconds.

The group's camaraderie includes supporting Amlan through personal loss, with teammates encouraging him after his mother's death and his dengue recovery.
