Ludhiana: Fund delays force govt schools to run mid-day meal scheme on credit

in5points
Government schools in Ludhiana have been running the Mid-Day Meal scheme on credit due to delayed fund releases since May 2026.
Teachers are purchasing essential ingredients on credit from local vendors to ensure students continue to receive meals.
Sukhdhir Singh Sekhon, head teacher of Government Primary School, Moti Nagar, said neither food grains nor funds have been received since May.
Deputy district education officer (elementary) Manoj Kumar acknowledged the delay and said food grains have been arranged; funds are expected next week.
The delay is attributed to the implementation of a single nodal agency account system.
