Treat digital arrests and cyber frauds as organised crime: SC

Supreme Court said digital arrest and cyber fraud cases must be equated with robbery and dacoity and treated as organised crime.

A bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana asked Gujarat police to consider adding charges under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act against accused Mohamad.

The SC rejected the bail plea of Mohamad, accused of posing as a policeman and using forged SC orders to digitally arrest a man and extort Rs 76 lakh.

The Court warned it would add graver charges under organised crime law if the accused's counsel pushed for bail.
