Rishi Sunak said his greatest sacrifice for public service was being an appalling husband and father for the past couple of years.

Sunak made the statement during the final hustings of the Conservative Party leadership race in Wembley in August 2022.

He said he was unable to be as present in his children's and wife's lives because of his jobs as Chancellor of the Exchequer and later PM candidate.

Sunak engineered the multi-billion-pound furlough scheme and led crisis management during the COVID-19 pandemic before the leadership campaign.
