India likely to cross target of 300 GW of renewable energy by August-end: Prahlad Joshi

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi said India is likely to cross 300 GW of renewable energy by August 2026.

India's non-fossil fuel capacity is projected to reach 786 GW by 2035-36, accounting for nearly 70% of installed power capacity.

Solar capacity grew from 2.66 GW in 2014 to 162 GW and is expected to reach 175 GW in two to three months.

By 2035-36, solar energy will overtake coal as India's largest source of installed power capacity, with 510 GW solar vs 315 GW coal.

The government targets 174 GW of battery storage capacity by 2035-36, including 888 GWh of energy storage and 94 GW of pumped storage.
