Trump frequently announces he's halting strikes in Iran. But they keep happening

President Donald Trump announced late Saturday he would halt new planned attacks on Iran pending renewed talks.

Trump's announcements to pause strikes have been repeatedly upended by renewed attacks within days or hours.

The U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire in February, which Trump extended indefinitely before it collapsed on May 8.

In late May, Trump called off a major strike citing negotiations, but U.S. strikes resumed by May 27.

Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran calling for a permanent end to hostilities and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
