World’s third-smallest country Nauru renamed Naoero, code shifts to NRO

Nauru officially changed its name to the Republic of Naoero, and its international code shifted from NRU to NRO.
President David Adeang proposed the change in January, and Parliament backed it via a constitutional amendment in two rounds of voting.
The name Naoero has long been used in the national language and appears on the national coat of arms, but foreign speakers struggled with pronunciation, leading to the international name 'Nauru'.
Citizens will now be referred to as dei-Naoero, and government aircraft and ships will be renamed to match the new identity.
The United Nations website now lists the country under its new name, and diplomatic websites in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and China are being updated.
