4.3 lakh ration cards shifted to APL; status of more could change

Karnataka govt moved 4.3 lakh BPL ration cards to APL category after verifying flagged beneficiaries.

Food minister KH Muniyappa said the govt is considering revising BPL eligibility norms.

Verification of 7.8 lakh BPL cards began in Sept 2025; 55,666 were retained as BPL, 40% still under scrutiny.

Karnataka covers 65.9% of its population under the National Food Security Act with 1.2 crore ration cards.

Govt is installing GPS on transport vehicles, CCTV at warehouses, and a central command centre to curb foodgrain diversion.
