Canada leader tells Indian student to go home
in5points
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told protesting Indian students of Portage College that they need to go home if their visas expired and they have no work permit.
Smith said Portage may have overstated the pathway to permanent residency but stopped short of calling it a diploma mill.
Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was not familiar with the details but noted there is a process to follow.
Indian students at Portage College were denied post-graduation work permits after a rule change, despite being told they would qualify when they enrolled.
