India invites Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman to BRICS Summit as special guest

India invited Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi as a special guest from September 12-13.

Bangladesh is not a BRICS member or observer; Rahman is among a handful of non-member leaders invited.

The invitation was conveyed to Dhaka this week, but Bangladesh has not yet decided on acceptance.

If accepted, this would be Rahman's first visit to India as prime minister, amid efforts to normalize ties after strained relations under the Muhammad Yunus interim administration.

The invitation follows Rahman's earlier choice of Malaysia and China for his first foreign visits, reflecting a 'Bangladesh First' foreign policy.
