After four-and-a-half years, Shahidi steps down as Afghanistan's ODI captain

Hashmatullah Shahidi stepped down as Afghanistan's ODI captain after four-and-a-half years, effective immediately following Afghanistan's 3-0 ODI series loss to India.

Shahidi captained Afghanistan in 55 ODIs, winning 27 matches, and led the team to their first 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final push and a 2025 Champions Trophy berth.

Under Shahidi's captaincy, Afghanistan secured ODI series wins over Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Ireland, and he scored his only ODI century (102) in his final match against India.

Shahidi stated he will continue playing for Afghanistan as a player, and the Afghanistan Cricket Board is expected to announce a new ODI captain before the Ireland tour next month.
