Karnataka police transfer policy recast to curb lobbying, fix tenures

Karnataka's home department issued revised guidelines for the posting and transfer of deputy superintendents of police (DySPs) and police inspectors (PIs).

The policy mandates a compulsory two-year tenure in non-executive or desk assignments before officers become eligible for executive field postings.

Officers can serve a cumulative maximum of five years in executive assignments within major commissionerates, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and Kalaburagi.

After five years in executive postings, officers must spend five years outside these commissionerates before returning to city police executive roles.

Officers facing major departmental inquiries, Lokayukta or anti-corruption investigations, criminal investigations or trials, or adverse findings by the Police Establishment Board are disqualified from executive field postings.
