School holidays extended in J&K till July 26 as IMD forecasts heavy rain; Himachal, Uttarakhand on alert

Jammu and Kashmir extended school holidays for all government and recognized private schools in Kashmir Division and Winter Zones of Jammu Division until July 26, announced by Education Minister Sakina Ittoo.

The extension prioritizes student safety as the India Meteorological Department forecasts widespread rainfall across Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Schools originally closed on July 6 due to heatwave and were to reopen July 20; now reopening July 27.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand remain on alert but have not issued statewide school closure orders.

Students in affected regions are advised to check official notifications for updates on school operations.
