‘Fabricated inspection records to mislead investigators’: South Delhi building collapse report flags MCD lapses

The MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) fabricated retrospective inspection records to mislead investigators into the May 30 South Delhi building collapse.

The building in Saidulajab collapsed while two additional floors were under construction, killing six people including Ravi Prakash, Ekta, Kapil, Alok Verma, Nalin Rai, and Parvati Ojha.

The 80-page magisterial inquiry report concluded the disaster was preventable and blamed the MCD for failing to monitor illegal construction, sitting on complaints, and not enforcing norms.

The report cleared Delhi Police, Delhi Jal Board, and power discom BSES of wrongdoing, but noted one victim was shuttled between multiple hospitals before death.

The collapse was primarily due to unauthorised structural additions and inadequate regulatory enforcement by the MCD.
