China floats ‘Waico’ to challenge US tech supremacy, Xi lures Global South for new AI world order

President Xi Jinping unveiled the World AI Cooperation Organisation (Waico) at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.

Xi courted the Global South by promoting a new AI world order based on open-source models and China-led technology sharing.

China will provide AI training and establish cooperation centers with Brics, Asean, Latin American, and African Union nations.

Xi challenged US tech supremacy, stating AI development should be international cooperation, not a single country's performance.
