Chandigarh: SWM waste management system satisfactory, says Panel

The site inspection committee formed per Supreme Court directions inspected Chandigarh municipal corporation's waste management facilities on July 26, 2026.

The committee reviewed facilities including MRFs, processing plants, bio-methanation plant, C&D waste plant, and the Dadumajra legacy waste site.

The four-stream source segregation system is being effectively implemented, and waste collection and transportation via covered vehicles was satisfactory.

Bio-remediation of the Dadumajra legacy waste site has progressed with decades-old waste undergoing scientific treatment.

The committee concluded that MC has a robust SWM framework compliant with SWM Rules, 2026, but recommended continued monitoring and maintenance.
