1st dengue vaccine gets DCGI nod, set to hit market next year

India’s drug regulator DCGI granted market authorisation to QDENGA, Takeda’s dengue vaccine, for ages 4 to 60 years.

QDENGA requires two doses three months apart and protects against all four dengue virus serotypes without requiring pre-vaccination screening.

The vaccine is expected to launch in the first half of 2027; pricing has not been finalized.

Approval was supported by a Phase III trial in Indian participants showing safety and immunogenicity.

India accounts for about 34% of global dengue burden, with reported cases increasing 11-fold over two decades.
