Thane Municipal Corporation Chief Saurabh Rao Directed Immediate Evacuation, Demolition Of Dangerous Buildings

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Commissioner Saurabh Rao issued directives for immediate evacuation and demolition of dangerous buildings following a collapse in Bhiwandi on July 30 that killed nine people.

Buildings classified as C-1 (most dangerous) must be issued notices under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act and residents must be informed of risks, followed by evacuation and demolition.

Before evacuation, officials must verify and certify the exact carpet area of flat owners and tenants to protect property rights.

If residents resist evacuation, electricity and water supplies will be disconnected, and warning boards will be placed on dangerous buildings.

Temporary shelter will be provided at municipal transit camps for displaced residents, and independent technical teams will conduct routine inspections at ward level.
