Budding cricketer blackmailed with intimate video in Bengaluru

A 20-year-old cricketer from Maharashtra was blackmailed after a WhatsApp video call with a woman named Rashika in a Bengaluru hotel during a BCCI tournament.

The woman recorded the call without consent and demanded money; the victim initially transferred Rs 1,500 but threats continued.

A case was filed under the IT Act and BNS for publishing obscene material, extortion, and cheating against the fraudster who remains at large.

DCP Raja Imam Kasim P warned that cyber crooks use AI-generated videos with synthetic voices to lure victims into sextortion schemes.
