Indians filing Rs 100 crore income quadruples in five years
Number of Indian tax filers reporting gross total income of Rs 100 crore or more rose to 576 in assessment year 2025-26, four times the count from five years ago.
Data was provided by minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The number of such taxpayers grew steadily over five assessment years: 142 in AY 2021-22, 301 in AY 2022-23, 284 in AY 2023-24, 415 in AY 2024-25, and 576 in AY 2025-26.
The government cited measures to reduce income inequality, including a progressive income-tax structure and increased spending on food, health, education, housing, and social security.
