Heavy rain lashes north Kerala; many low-lying areas still flooded

Heavy rain lashed northern Kerala, with the highest rainfall recorded in the 21 hours ending 5:30 am on Tuesday.

Flooding persisted in low-lying and riverside areas of Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Kozhikode, forcing residents to move to relief camps.

State Tourism Minister P C Vishnunadh announced special adalats for restoring lost documents and ensuring children receive textbooks and study materials.

The government sanctioned ₹25,000 per ward for cleaning, and the CM promised financial assistance for those who lost homes and livelihoods.

IMD issued orange alerts in 12 districts and yellow alerts in two districts; Bayar in Kasaragod recorded 121.5 mm of rain, and water levels in Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha rivers remain above warning levels.
