in5points
Schools shut in Odisha's Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts due to a heavy rain red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD regional director Manorama Mohanty warned of widespread heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and squally weather across Odisha through July 29.
The deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal was about 120 km east-southeast of Balasore, moving north-northwest toward the West Bengal-North Odisha coast.
Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar districts were under a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Teachers and non-teaching staff were instructed to report for duty and coordinate with local authorities for emergency response.
