Waste dumped at Okhla landfill till 2025 cleared: Delhi government

Delhi government cleared all legacy waste accumulated at Okhla landfill until 2025 through biomining and bioremediation.

A total of 8.868 million metric tonnes of waste has been processed at Okhla landfill since biomining began in 2019 following NGT directions.

The Okhla landfill, spread over nearly 62 acres in south Delhi, still receives 3,500 MT of new waste daily; about 1.5 million MT from the past 1.5 years is targeted for clearance by October 2026.

Around 70-75% of processed material is inert and used for reclamation; recyclables are recovered, and refuse-derived fuel is supplied to waste-to-energy plants.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated the increased waste treatment rate at Okhla will flatten the landfill site, and she plans to visit to review progress.
