India's fertiliser game plan: Over 32 lakh tonnes imported in Q1; strengthened supply chain through overseas deals

  1. India imported over 32 lakh tonnes of key fertilisers in Q1 2026-27, including 25.08 lakh tonnes of urea and 7.11 lakh tonnes of DAP.

  2. Domestic fertilizer production reached 115.72 lakh tonnes in Q1, with urea at 71.55 lakh tonnes and DAP at 9.84 lakh tonnes.

  3. The government is diversifying import sources to mitigate global supply chain risks, as stated by Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J P Nadda.

  4. Long-term commercial arrangements are being finalized between Indian fertilizer companies and overseas suppliers to strengthen supply security.

  5. India is sourcing water-soluble fertilizers from Belgium, Egypt, Germany, Morocco, and the USA to offset shortfalls from reduced imports from China.
