Western Maharashtra drenched while north, Vidarbha battle rainfall deficit

Western Maharashtra receiving heavy rainfall, but 15 districts in the state face rainfall deficit, including severe shortfall in north Maharashtra and Vidarbha.

Palghar in Konkan region records highest surplus rainfall at 79% (1,977.2 mm vs normal 1,105 mm); Nandurbar is driest with 60% deficit (144.6 mm vs normal 359.8 mm).

Pune district registers 62% surplus rainfall (682.6 mm vs normal 420.1 mm); Nashik records 89% excess (719.2 mm vs normal 381.4 mm).

At least 15 districts, most in Vidarbha subdivision, have rainfall deficiency ranging from 20% to nearly 60%, including Sindhudurg (37%), Latur (42%), Hingoli (54%), and Nagpur (23%).

IMD says monsoon systems favour Konkan coast and Western Ghats, leaving interior parts like Vidarbha outside sustained rainfall zone; heavy rainfall spell over western Maharashtra likely to ease from July 25.
