Sunny Deol recalled that Dharmendra backed Ghayal after every producer rejected it, following a narration by Rajkumar Santoshi in Jaipur in 1988.
Dharmendra was shooting for Batwara in 1988 at Rambagh Palace in Jaipur when Santoshi narrated Ghayal, and Dharmendra immediately agreed to produce it.
Sunny Deol is promoting Batwara 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, which also marks Preity Zinta's return to acting after more than five years.
Batwara 1947 stars Sunny Deol as a Muslim man who protects a Hindu woman (Shabana Azmi) during Partition, and features Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur.
The film's music is composed by AR Rahman, lyrics by Javed Akhtar, and it is produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions.
