Chandigarh: Advocate shoots landlady during court-ordered eviction in Sector 42

Advocate JPS Chaddha, 57, allegedly shot 57-year-old Manjinder Kaur with a licensed double-barrel shotgun during a court-ordered eviction in Sector 42-C, Chandigarh.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 pm on Saturday as Kaur, accompanied by police and court officials, attempted to take possession of her flat after a 13-year legal battle.

Chaddha fired from the balcony while officials tried to break open the locked door, but missed Kaur's head, causing splinter injuries to her face.

Kaur was taken to PGIMER for treatment and is out of danger; Chaddha was overpowered and arrested on the spot.

The legal dispute began in 2013 when Kaur and her husband filed an ejectment petition under the Punjab Rent Act; the tenant had failed to appear in court, leading to an ex-parte order in 2014.
