in5points
Bangladesh has sent a letter to India requesting the extradition of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, a key aide of Sheikh Hasina.
Kamal fled amid the 2024 uprising against Hasina's government and was sentenced to death by the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity.
State minister for foreign affairs Shama Obaed Islam confirmed the extradition request and said letters are being sent for all fugitives.
Bangladesh expects India to respond and play its role in strengthening bilateral relations.
Islam stated that if Hasina surrenders, she will have to go to jail and face legal consequences under existing law.
