Those 'doctors and wellness influencers' on your social media feed might be AI: ‘Anybody could be scammed’

The New York Times investigation found AI avatars posing as doctors and wellness influencers to market health supplements on social media.

AI-generated videos are produced at a rate of 1,200 per day, costing $10 each, to push pills to vulnerable consumers.

Pamela Wundro, 71, bought Rosabella moringa pills after seeing Facebook ads featuring such AI avatars; later, the FDA and CDC announced the supplement was contaminated with salmonella.

Ambrosia Brands, parent company of Rosabella, did not respond to requests for comment despite hundreds of complaints to the Better Business Bureau.
