Man dies by suicide after alleging godman duped him of ₹73,000

A Ludhiana resident set himself on fire outside city-1 police station in Khanna after submitting a complaint against self-styled godman Charan Das.

Charan Das and three associates — Makhan Singh, Jugraj Singh, and Inderpreet Singh — were booked for abetment to suicide.

The victim alleged they duped him of ₹73,000 on the pretext of performing religious rituals to resolve financial problems.

₹20,000 was allegedly returned, but the rest was not, and he claimed harassment and threats when seeking the balance.

The man died on the spot; police found a matchbox and an empty bottle with inflammable substance at the scene.
