Iran attacks CIA sites; Russia role suspected

Iranian drone attacks on CIA facilities in the Gulf have prompted U.S. intelligence analysts to investigate possible Russian involvement through targeting support or advanced drone technology.

At least two CIA sites were struck in March 2026, including the CIA station in Saudi Arabia and a facility in eastern Iraq.

A Western intelligence memo concluded Russia likely played a role in targeting those CIA facilities.

The Saudi attack reportedly involved Russian-enhanced versions of Iran's Shahed drones, with one breaching the embassy exterior and a second detonating inside.

U.S. intelligence officials have not reached firm conclusions on Russian involvement, but the attacks' precision and Russia's broader technical support for Iran are under scrutiny.
