Shane McClanahan exits early due to triceps issue

Shane McClanahan exited Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning due to back tightness.

McClanahan missed 2024 after Tommy John surgery and underwent another operation in 2025 for nerve irritation in his left triceps.

The 29-year-old left-hander had a 9-6 record with a 3.06 ERA over 20 starts before the injury.

McClanahan's early exit may increase the Tampa Bay Rays' urgency to pursue Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal before the trade deadline.

Head athletic trainer Joseph Benge attended to McClanahan on the mound before he was replaced by right-hander Casey Legumina.
