Two hours of downpour sinks Ludhiana

Two hours of rain on July 30 caused severe waterlogging and a road cave-in at Gurdev Chowk in Ludhiana.

A car plunged into a 10-foot-wide crater at Gurdev Chowk, injuring the driver; the car was later removed by crane.

Municipal corporation joint commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon attributed the cave-in to a sewerage leak and the city's old, narrow drainage system.

Waterlogging affected areas including Dholewal Chowk, Clock Tower Road, Miller Ganj, Gill Road, and Transport Nagar.

The incident exposed gaps in the city's monsoon preparedness despite municipal claims of readiness.
