Chandigarh: 2 out of every 5 deliveries in city take place through caesarean, says NFHS

% of births in Chandigarh UT were via caesarean in 2023-24, up from ~31% in 2019-20, per NFHS-6.

Private hospitals saw caesarean rates rise from 44.3% (2019-20) to 65% (2023-24).

Government hospital caesarean rates increased from 30.4% to 32.3%.

Dr Mangla Dogra attributed the rise to high-risk pregnancy referrals from Punjab, Himachal, and other states.

Dr Suman Singh noted that most caesareans in government hospitals are emergency cases due to complicated referrals.
