Kalgoorlie-Boulder received a $10,000 grant that helped grow 3,500 hectares of forest.

The greening initiative started in the 1970s to combat dust storms caused by mining.

The forest now protects the city from windblown dust and has improved air quality.

Dust levels were dramatically reduced over a twenty-year period.
