Heavy rains lash south and central Gujarat; 27,000 shifted amid flood-like situations

Heavy rains in south and central Gujarat led to 27,856 people being relocated, including 11,500 in Navsari and 11,176 in Surat.

Ambika taluka in Surat district received up to 611 mm rainfall in 24 hours; multiple districts saw over 400 mm.

Authorities deployed 17 NDRF teams, 33 SDRF teams, and six Army columns for rescue operations.

District collector Tejas Parmar urged residents near the Kim river to move to safe locations due to dam overflows and flooding.

Red alert issued by India Meteorological Department for Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Morbi, and Botad until Sunday.
