New NHAI toll formula lowers charges on bridges, tunnels and flyovers

NHAI will lower tolls on national highways with bridges, tunnels, flyovers, and elevated stretches under the Centre’s new highway fee rules.

Under the revised National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, toll is calculated as the lower of: 10 times the length of structures plus remaining highway length, or 5 times total highway length.

Structures 60 metres or less are not treated separately in the formula.

The change caps the chargeable distance, preventing tolls based solely on 10 times structure length without limit.

On a 40-km highway with 30 km of structures, the chargeable length drops from 310 km to 200 km under the new formula.
