California to spend $36.4 mn repairing historic Ebbetts Pass where highway climbs 8000 feet

Caltrans will begin a $36.4 million project on August 3 to repair 31.7 miles of California's Highway 4, including Ebbetts Pass.

The four-year project will improve road surfaces, replace 66 drainage culverts and 7 guardrails, and add safety features.

Ebbetts Pass reaches 8,050 feet at Pacific Grade Summit and includes narrow single-lane sections that will not be widened.

The project was delayed from July 13 to August 3 to avoid disrupting the Bear Valley Music Festival, but completion remains set for autumn 2030.

Temporary lane closures and occasional full highway closures are expected during construction.
