Norway striker Alexander Sorloth faced online backlash and death threats after failing to pass to Erling Haaland in a World Cup quarterfinal against England.

Sorloth said his first touch was poor and he intended to pass to Haaland but chose to shoot when the passing lane was blocked by England's John Stones.

The missed opportunity occurred during a two-on-one break in the first half, with Haaland unmarked alongside Sorloth.

Sorloth expressed regret, saying he should have moved first to unbalance the defender and that the chance was harder because it was for a World Cup semifinal spot.
