Tamil Nadu moves SC over Cauvery water dispute, alleges shortfall by Karnataka
Tamil Nadu approached the Supreme Court over the Cauvery water dispute, alleging Karnataka's release fell short of its entitlement.
The petition was filed on the direction of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay after consultations with senior advocates.
As of August 3, storage in Karnataka's four major Cauvery reservoirs (Krishna Raja Sagar, Kabini, Harangi, Hemavathi) was 77.537 TMC, and Tamil Nadu's due share at Biligundlu was 26.954 TMC.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority allocated only 4.536 TMC, which Tamil Nadu deemed too low.
The CWMA had directed Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs per day for 15 days, but Tamil Nadu argues this is insufficient.
