Adults have right to choose life partners: Calcutta HC orders protection for inter-faith marriage

Calcutta High Court directed West Bengal police to provide security for an inter-faith marriage in Howrah.

Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya observed that adult citizens have the right to choose life partners.

The order came on a plea by a couple facing local opposition due to differing faiths.

Howrah Superintendent of Police Amit Verma confirmed steps were taken to comply with the order.

Police must file a compliance report within seven days after the wedding, with the next hearing on August 10.
