ILO: 100 crore covered under social security
India's social protection system now reaches 100 crore people, covering more than two-thirds of its population.
The International Labour Organisation director general Gilbert F. Houngbo announced the milestone at a BRICS labour and employment ministers' meeting.
Social protection coverage expanded from 25 crore citizens (19%) in 2015 to over 100 crore (68.4%) by 2026.
The ILO criteria for schemes include legislative backing, cash benefits, active status, and verified time-series data for three years.
Labour minister Mansukh Mandaviya attributed the expansion to the government's commitment to Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.
