Independent autopsy reveals new details in Nolan Wells death

Independent autopsy commissioned by Nolan Wells' family found blunt force injuries to head, neck, and torso, with cause of death ruled homicide (blunt force trauma with drowning as contributing factor), inconsistent with accidental drowning.

Wells disappeared on July 4 after traveling by boat with friends to Horn Island, Mississippi; his body was recovered July 6 near the island's northwestern tip.

The official autopsy by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner's Office has not been released, and no official cause or manner of death has been announced.

Civil rights attorney Ben Crump stated the findings warrant a more thorough investigation; the independent autopsy was funded by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
