Himachal Pradesh To Procure 1,000 Electric Buses And 100 Hydrogen-Powered Buses For Green Transport Revolution

  1. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the state will procure 1,000 electric buses and 100 hydrogen-powered buses this year.

  2. Sukhu flagged off 297 Type-I electric buses from Kyarighat in Solan district, bringing the state's electric fleet to 500 vehicles.

  3. Electric buses cost Rs 36-38 per km to operate, compared to Rs 76-86 for diesel buses, and current models have a range of 200 km per charge; next-generation buses will travel 250-300 km.

  4. The procurement is part of the state's clean energy transition to become a leading green energy hub and reduce climate change impact.

  5. Sukhu also launched the HimBus Plus Card, a digital initiative for smart public transportation across the state.
