India drills first deepwater well in Mahanadi basin

India drilled its first-ever deepwater well in the Mahanadi basin.

The government opened nearly one million square kilometres of previously restricted offshore areas for exploration.

Fresh acreage will be offered under upcoming rounds of the Open Acreage Licensing Policy.
