BCI draft Bill seeks higher enrolment fee, law admission changes and professional development programmes

The BCI Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026 proposes increasing the statutory advocate enrolment fee from Rs 750 to Rs 22,500.

The draft recommends entrance examinations for law admissions and changes to the All India Bar Examination.

It also proposes expansion of the Legal Education Committee and mandatory continuing legal education for advocates.

Stakeholders can submit suggestions to the BCI until 3 pm on July 31, 2026.
