Set up NIPER in Himachal, minister writes to Centre

Himachal Pradesh technical education minister Rajesh Dharmani wrote to Union minister JP Nadda requesting the establishment of a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in the state.

Dharmani argued that NIPER would enable advanced research, innovation, industry-academia collaboration, and skilled human resource development in Himachal, a major pharmaceutical hub.

The Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial area is one of India's largest pharmaceutical clusters, hosting numerous national and multinational companies.

The Bulk Drug Park sanctioned for Una is expected to further strengthen the state's pharmaceutical ecosystem.

Dharmani emphasized that research is needed to develop new formulations and innovative medicines, moving beyond generic medicines.
