Chicago man links cyclosporiasis to Taco Bell chalupa

Alonso Zaragoza, a 46-year-old Chicago man, was hospitalized for cyclosporiasis after eating a Taco Bell chalupa with shredded iceberg lettuce.

Zaragoza experienced symptoms including explosive diarrhea, vomiting, chills, fever, and blood in stool, leading to an emergency room visit.

The CDC confirmed an outbreak of Cyclospora linked to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

The FDA traced the contaminated lettuce to a specific supplier in Mexico used by Taco Bell outlets.

Nearly 1,700 confirmed cases and 5,100 additional reports of cyclosporiasis have been detected across 34 states.
